George Njuguna, founder and lead consultant at GNK Consulting Limited boasts a distinguished background in technology leadership and digital transformation. His career includes a range of technical and senior management roles across local, regional, and international markets. George served as Director of Digital & Information Technology (CIO) at Safaricom PLC for six years, until October 2024 and additionally, held the Ag. Chief Technology Information Officer role for a section of his tenure at East Africa’s largest technology company. He had previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Housing Finance Group and as Head of Information Technology at Commercial Bank of Africa.
With over 23 years experience in Information Technology, including 18 years in banking and the broader financial services, George brings on board his immense expertise in technology strategy, operations, product development, project management, digital transformation, and large-scale technology implementations.
His industry accolades include being named CIO of the Year for East Africa (2018), induction into the East Africa CIO Hall of Fame (2019), and inclusion in the Broadband 50 to Watch list of global influencers (2021). He was also a recipient of the Vodacom Leadership Award in 2022, along with other recognitions, such as Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40 in Kenya, and the Master Award at the World CIO 200 Summit in 2023.
George spearheaded Safaricom Decode 2.0, Africa’s largest engineering summit, and led the Industry Digital Talent Program, a Safaricom initiative in collaboration with industry stakeholders. His contributions to the ICT Industry and talent development, culminated in receiving the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) from the President of Kenya. George’s career reflects a commitment to purpose-driven leadership and empowering people through technology.
