How dfcu Bank is Empowering Northern Uganda Through the Parish Development Model (PDM)

Gulu, Uganda 31st July: dfcu Bank’s CEO and leadership team have successfully concluded a series of customer engagement sessions in the Northern region of Uganda in the districts of Lira, Kitgum, Dokolo, Arua, Abim, Pader and Gulu. These engagements were part of dfcu Bank’s 60th anniversary celebrations and also dfcu Bank’s broader commitment to continue supporting economic development and fostering financial inclusion across Uganda.

While visiting the Abim District local government office, the local leadership noted the bank’s pivotal role in transforming the lives of the residents through the Parish Development Model (PDM). As the only bank in Abim District, dfcu Bank has been at the forefront of facilitating financial inclusion and economic empowerment by enabling residents to open bank accounts and access crucial development funds.

PDM,  a government initiative aimed at uplifting livelihoods and driving socio-economic transformation in communities that are still under the poverty line, has found a steadfast partner in dfcu Bank. By providing accessible banking services, dfcu Bank has ensured that residents of Abim in the Karamoja sub-region can fully participate in this developmental and transformative program. To access PDM funds, residents are required to have a bank account, and dfcu Bank has stepped up to meet this need efficiently and effectively as the only bank in the district.

“dfcu Bank is a Ugandan bank and we are deeply committed to the development of our country. Our presence in Abim District is a testament to our dedication to bringing financial services to underserved areas. By facilitating access to PDM funds, we have empowered residents to invest in their futures and drive development within their communities,” dfcu Bank CEO, Charles M. Mudiwa noted.

As of the end of the financial year – FY 2023/24, 7.8 Billion Uganda Shillings had been disbursed to 8447 households in 72 parishes in Abim.

In Kitgum, Alex Opira, the Principal Commercial Officer for Kitgum District Local Government thanked dfcu Bank for its commitment to the people of Kitgum and its support to the development and financial inclusion of the residents through easing the disbursement of funds to PDM beneficiaries. “We have managed to pay over 7,000 PDM beneficiaries through dfcu Bank. They have digitalized their banking systems which has also reduced crowding in banks while paying the beneficiaries and made our work easier,” he said.

dfcu Bank’s involvement in PDM in Northern Uganda highlights its commitment to fostering inclusive growth and development across Uganda. The bank continues to work closely with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of financial inclusion and empowerment reach even the most remote areas of Uganda.

“As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we are reminded of our roots in development finance and our purpose to transform lives and businesses in Uganda. Our work with PDM in Northern Uganda is an example of our mission in action. We are proud to be a catalyst for positive change and look forward to continuing our partnership with the residents of Northern Uganda and beyond,” Charles Mudiwa added.
