Sustainability Governance Manager (1 Position)
Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the role holder will be responsible for implementing the Bank’s ESG Governance, reporting and Risk Management framework to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
Duty Station: Head Office
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop a Bank-wide Sustainability strategy to identify and manage the key ESG-related risks & opportunities.
- Implement best practices to support operationalization of the bank’s sustainability strategy.
- Generate insights and thought leadership materials on Sustainability, ESG topics and trends, both locally and internationally to aid decision making.
- Serve as subject matter expert on Sustainability/ESG, including industry trends, research, regulations, and ESG data gathering, analysis, monitoring, and reporting.
- Accountable for overall ESG Risk Management including ownership and implementation of an effective environmental and social management mechanism.
- Manage the ESG Governance and Compliance reporting requirements including both internal and external requirements.
- Guide the Business to deliver effective Environmental and Social Risk appraisals (both desk- top and site based) as part of the credit process and develop practical risk management plans, as appropriate, to be included as part of the facility agreements.
- Run the assurance program and follow-up to ensure effective implementation of the E&S Management Policy and Procedures.
- Work in close partnership with the wider business to develop ESG opportunities and impact related products and services.
- Design pre-requisite ESG principles and requirements that the Bank’s vendors and other key third parties must embed in their operating doctrines and enforce their compliance.
- Deliver an effective ESG training program to the organization across all levels including the Bank’s clients.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A Bachelor’s Degree.
- An ESG related certification – will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of local environmental, sustainability, employment, health and safety legislations and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of and practical experience in social, environmental sustainability and governance issues across diverse sectors.
- 8 years working experience with at least 5 in an ESG related role.
- Ability to propose realistic, value-adding, and practical risk management plans.
- Able to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Good working knowledge of IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) guidelines, Equator Principles, GRI, TCFD, Other International Sustainability Standards.
- Experience of ESG related accreditations, engagement and fundraising with international parties.
- Previous experience in banking desirable.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate well and be highly organized.
- Ability to provide insight and analysis through clear visual, written, and verbal communication.
- Highly curious and inquisitive.
